Joshua 3:13 gives some powerful revelation and shows the connection between the priest, the ark, the people, and God’s victory. The threat of death lay before God’s people as this river flowed. The nation could be crippled if they tried to cross this river with human help. The miracle came when the priest stepped into the cold, overflowing, crippling flood with the Ark on his shoulder. From the moment the priest stepped into the Jordan flood the waters were cut off. The priest, as he was vitally connected to the Ark (which is a symbol of God’s presence), must step into the water. He bore the responsibility of the presence of the Lord while the others walked on dry land. Somebody has to have this responsibility and declare “I will stand, for the presence of God is with me.” This is what God is doing among His people as men and women are being raised up to take the responsibility of the presence of God and bring deliverance to those around us. Someone must rise at this hour and declare, “I will stand. If many fall around me, I am determined to stand.”
