Philippians 2:8 — “And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.”

Joshua 11:15 — “As the Lord commanded Moses His servant, so did Moses command Joshua, and so did Joshua; he left nothing undone of all that the Lord commanded Moses.”

Joshua 1:3 — “Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses.”

When God in His unparalleled glory sent His Son, the name that was chosen for Him, Jesus, was the same name that was given in the Old Testament to Joshua. The similarity between their lives is amazing. Concerning Jesus, the mission was saving the people from their sin. Concerning Joshua, the mission was to deliver them through enemy country to God’s victory. Of Jesus, Philippians 2:8 said, “He was obedient unto death.” Of Joshua, it was said, “He left nothing undone of all that Moses commanded him to do.” Joshua led the people across Jordan and conquered Canaan, so too, Jesus by death and resurrection leads the people to victory. Joshua1:3 gives an awesome marching command. God says this is my inheritance to you and the presence of the enemy means nothing. I have divinely commanded them to leave and now the same land that was possessed by the enemy by deception will be possessed by you because of obedience. Now walk, march, go and possess because this act of walking and treading on this ground is the act of the enforcement of my victory. A law with all its power means nothing unless it is enforced. This must be the position of the follower of our Lord. This land is given to you by title deed but will never be yours as possession unless it’s yours by occupation. Now, occupy your place of blessing, comfort, healing and victory.

When the people of the nation of Israel were about to enter Canaan, they abruptly found out that there were enemies lodged in their land. This land was promised to them by God and when they were about to take it, the enemies were revealed. It is not a violation to the will of God to see enemies in the very place God has provided for you. There is no uncontested blessing, or unopposed progress. Even though the enemy was in the middle of their inheritance, it was the powerful Word of Joshua 3:10 that resounded with hope.

Joshua 3:10 — “And Joshua said, Hereby ye shall know that the living God is among you, and that He will without fail drive out from before you the Canaanites, the Hittites, and the Hivites, and the Perizzites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Jebusites.”

God issued the order to the enemy to be driven out, but the people must possess the land by walking and inhabiting. Be assured, in this battle God claims the responsibility of driving out the enemy and you take the responsibility of walking into the promise and inhabiting the place of inheritance. My responsibility is the path of faith and obedience. They would live in cities they never built, vineyards they never planted, inhabit houses they never erected, cornfields they never planted. Do what you can; God will do what you can’t.
